  • 2 March 2020, Hebron: Palestinian shop owner Jamal Marawa looks up towards the Israeli settlement that has been constructed on top of one of the souq streets in the Old City in Hebron, West Bank. Jamal describes how many of his fellow shop owners have been pushed away from what used to be a much more vibrant market street. These days, a metal ceiling collects garbage thrown by the Israeli settlers down onto the Palestinians underneath. Sometimes they even through liquid or wastewater down on the street below, Jamal explains.

They have named the narrow passages between their shelters with street names. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians were left homeless by the January 12 quake.

Shortly after Typhoon Haiyan in 2015, Pope Francis visited the Philippines. Millions of people waited hours to see him pass by. Pope Francis prepared an encyclical on the environment and the climate crisis, and during his visit he showed solidarity with victims of Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda, and related the increase in extreme weather events to climate change.
