  • A boy carries a shovel and rake in the Zaatari Refugee Camp, located near Mafraq, Jordan. Opened in July, 2012, the camp holds upwards of 50,000 refugees from the civil war inside Syria, but its numbers are growing. International Orthodox Christian Charities and other members of the ACT Alliance are active in the camp providing essential items and services.

  • Once displaced by terrorist attacks by the Lord's Resistance Army, Vicki Paulino and other farmers in Gangura, South Sudan, are once again farming their fields with help from Caritas, which has provided seeds, tools and technical support, and with protection from the Arrow Boys, local self-defense militia groups established to defend against LRA attacks. The LRA attacked Gangura in early March, 2015, kidnapping 13 people. The Arrow Boys eventually drove off the attackers, killing one and losing one of their own members. The farmers group is supported by the diocese of Tombura-Yambio and Caritas Austria.

These families were displaced by political violence that broke out in December 2013 and quickly fractured regions of the young nation along ethnic and tribal lines. While many of the displaced have gathered in camps, families in this region are mostly living with friends and relatives. Finn Church Aid, a member of the ACT Alliance, provided materials for this aid distribution. The ACT Alliance is providing a variety of services to internally displaced families throughout the country.

The name means Night Mountain, and surrounding the plateau is a small village and open plains. Thaba Bosiu was once the capital of Lesotho, and the mountain was the stronghold of the Basotho king when the kingdom of Lesotho was formed.

Yuliana is one of 950 students who have been subsidised with the Fairtrade Premium through the Andes Coop to study at university. She is studying for a degree in agriculture. So far, the Andes coffee-producing coop has spent $1.5 million on the programme.<br />

Yuliana's father is one of 3,500 members of the coop. Any coop member, their partner or children can take part in the superior education programme.  <br />
