The Darfur Emergency Response Operation is a joint effort of Caritas Internationalis, the Rome-based network of Catholic aid agencies, and Action by Churches Together (ACT), the Geneva-based Protestant relief network. Since 2003, as many as 400,000 people have been killed and 2,500,000 displaced by government-sanctioned violence against African farming communities in the region.
