Sudarkin, a miner originally from Russia, is one of hundreds of new arrivals who've been lured to Nome by higher gold prices and a television reality show about mining in the Bering Sea community. The Thrift Shop is also supported by the Nome Community Center, a United Methodist Women-supported mission institution.
