The men patrol the forest around the village, especially at night, on the look out for the Lord's Resistance Army, which has displaced tens of thousands in recent months along the border area. Many believe the northern Sudan government is behind the attacks in its desire to destabilize the south in the period leading to a January 2011 referendum on secession. NOTE: In July 2011 Southern Sudan became the independent country of South Sudan.
