Learning to weld in wake of Philippines typhoon

Jeddah Palo participates in a welding course at the San Roque Catholic Church in Tolosa, a small town in the Philippines that was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. Palo, 24, lost her home to the typhoon's storm surge and has been living with her mother. The 25-day welding course, sponsored by Catholic Relief Services, provides her with training for a new livelihood, while students put their newfound skills to work rebuilding the church's collapsed sanctuary. The storm was known locally as Typhoon Yolanda.
