Rebuilding housing in war-torn South Sudan

Dau Chol Thuc works on the roof of his new house in Dong Boma, a Dinka village in South Sudan's Jonglei State, on April 12, 2017. Most of the villagers recently returned home after being displaced by rebel soldiers in December, 2013, and they face serious challenges in rebuilding their village.
The blue fabric used to fasten many of the sticks together is torn from insecticide-treated bednets, which villagers have discovered provide a termite-resistant material for construction.
The Lutheran World Federation, a member of the ACT Alliance, is helping villagers restart their lives with support for housing, livelihood, and food security.
