Woman with disability benefited from emergency aid after earthquake in Indonesia

Misbah Teleumbanua stands in her work room in her home in Gamo, a village on the Indonesian island of Nias. Teleumbanua lost one leg as a baby, and spent most of her life hopping around on the other leg. Then following the 2005 earthquake on Nias, a mobile team from YEU, an ACT Alliance member agency, came to her neighborhood looking for people who'd been left disabled by the quake. They told her they'd help her as well. She learned to use crutches and was fitted with a proper prosthesis, then took a three-month tailoring class which allowed her to open her own business sewing clothes for her neighbors.
