Qotaiba Altaie and his wife Aseel Almash Hadanie pose with their three daughters--Sara 12, Mrwa 11, and Lames 6--in their room in a refugee shelter in Vienna, Austria. While their applications for asylum are being considered, the Iraqi family lives in this temporary shelter constructed in a branch of the Erste Bank.
The shelter is coordinated by Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe Österreich, a member of the Diakonie network in Austria, which is a member of the ACT Alliance. Some 85 refugees currently live in the former bank, and several bank employees volunteer to assist the refugees sheltered there.
