Southern Sudan women farm vegetables
Add to Cart Add to Lightbox DownloadTamara Kako chops out a shrub and she and other members of the United Methodist Women in Yei, Southern Sudan, prepare a plot of land for planting vegetables. The work is part of a group food security project. Many of them widows, the women live precariously but at peace after having returned from refugee camps in neighboring Uganda and the Congo in recent years. A 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement laid the foundations for peace in Sudan's south after decades of war. NOTE: In July 2011, Southern Sudan became the independent country of South Sudan
