Roman Catholic Father Thomas Bagbiowia checks the paperwork of Margaret David Solomon, a poll worker in Nzara, in Southern Sudan's Western Equatoria State, on the first day of a 17-day registration period in preparation for January's referendum on secession from the country's north. Bagbiowia, the parish priest in nearby Riimenze, is a member of the local election commission and led a team that trained poll workers. Voters are expected to choose overwhelmingly for independence.
