15 May 2023, Kakuma, Turkana County, Kenya: 41-year-old Jalala Msafiri from the DRC works on a church uniform at a vocational training space named Bidii, offered by the LWF at the Kakuma refugee camp. A certified tailor, Msafiri makes use of the space while saving up for her own workshop and store that she plans to establish in the camp to earn a more stable income. The word meaning ’hard working’ in Swahili, Bidii is the name of a vocational training programme of the Lutheran World Federation at the Kakuma refugee camp, whereby refugees learn essential skills needed to earn an income, including tailoring and computer skills, respectively.
