The camp holds more than 20,000 Nuer who took refuge there in December 2013 after a political dispute within the country's ruling party quickly fractured the young nation along ethnic and tribal lines. Ten DMI sisters from India work in the camp, providing counseling and psycho-social support for women and children, teaching children in makeshift schools, and providing food to hungry families.
