Sari Sari store in Manila North Cemetery

Add to Cart Add to Lightbox Download

In the capital of the Philippines, a woman sits inside her small sari-sari store in the Manila North Cemetery. Hundreds of poor families live in the cemetery, dwelling inside and between the tombs and mausoleums of the city's wealthy. They are often discriminated against, and many of their children don't go to school because they're too hungry to study and they're often called "vampires" by their classmates. With support from United Methodist Women, KKFI--a Filipino NGO--provides classroom education and meals to kids from the cemetery at a nearby church.
