Group prays for peace in Okinawa memorial park
Add to Cart Add to Lightbox DownloadParticipants in a seminar on women and militarization in Asia gather in a circle to pray at a peace park in Itoman, Okinawa, Japan. The group is standing at the top of a cliff where many Okinawans killed themselves as the Battle of Okinawa drew to a close, preferring suicide to capture by U.S. forces. The park also includes stone markers inscribed with the names of more than 241,000 people who died in the Battle of Okinawa. The seminar was sponsored by United Methodist Women and the Wesley Center in Tokyo.
