At Rio Blanco, the contruction of the Dam over the river Gualcarque has been halted because of the demonstrations by the Lenca indigenous organisation COPINH. The river is sacred to the Lenca people. The struggle saw the assassination of several environmental leaders including Berta Cáceres.
