With Hanna arriving nine days ago with the three children, the family was able to reunite in Kuková four days later. Kuková is one of many congregations of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Slovakia supporting incoming refugees from Ukraine by arranging accommodation, food and shelter. Ukrainian refugee families enjoy a meal together. Since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, close to 200,000 Ukrainians have come to seek refuge in Slovakia. The Lutheran church is taking a leading role in hosting and providing support to incoming refugees, both immediately at the border, and medium to long-term by arranging accommodation and shelter, providing food and other support needed.
