A new leg in Nuba Mountains
Add to Cart Add to Lightbox DownloadSimon Peter Aede helps 8-year old Kocho Said in the prosthetics department of the Mother of Mercy Hospital in Gidel, a village in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. The area is controlled by the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North, and frequently attacked by the military of Sudan. The Catholic hospital is the only referral hospital in the war-torn area, and has dealt with many amputations of people injured by bombs, artillery, and gunshot wounds. Said lost his leg to cancer the year before and technicians were waiting for swelling in the stump to go down before finally fitting him with a prosthetic leg.
