• Thousands of participants in a Climate Walk cross a bridge shortly before entering the storm-ravaged Philippine city of Tacloban on November 8, the first anniversary of Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda. The storm killed thousands of people and left millions displaced. The Climate Walk, which lasted 38 days and covered some 1000 kilometers before arriving in Tacloban, was led by Climate Change Commissioner Yeb Saño. Participants demanded the world take immediate action to stop climate change and the suffering it produces in vulnerable populations.

 • Cowboy Mikol Hernández inspects the carcasses of cattle that died in recent drought in San Francisco Libre, Nicaragua. As the cattle began to struggle the ranchers moved them away to areas without drought, or they died. At the same time, as the crops failed on several consecutive years and as the water table dropped and the wells dried up, people began move away. Unable to sell their land, many of them move to uncontrolled areas of forest in the autonomous regions of the Atlantic where they cut down forest to make way for agriculture.

 • A man walks by a dead cow in Dong Boma, a Dinka village in South Sudan's Jonglei State, on April 12, 2017. Most villagers recently returned home after being displaced by rebel soldiers in December, 2013, and they face serious challenges in rebuilding their village while simultaneously coping with a drought which has devastated their herds.
The Lutheran World Federation, a member of the ACT Alliance, is helping villagers restart their lives with support for housing, livelihood, and food security.

 • A bridge over the Rio Iztoca in southern Honduras. Though it is the rainy season, the river bed is dry. The river has dried up in recent years, along with many other rivers in the region, this is thought to be partly from stripping of vegetation and forest cover in the watersheds that feed the rivers in the south, and also due to the influence of climate change. The IPCC predicted a likelihood of reduced rainfall in the region. Agriculture has already been failing in the area for eight years because of drought conditions.

 • Regina Abuk displays wild fruits on which she and her neighbors survive in Yang Kuel, a village in South Sudan's Lol State where a persistent drought has destroyed crops and left people hungry. The fruit--a so-called "hunger food"--must be dried, pulverized, and boiled before it can be eaten.

A local partner of Christian Aid, a member of the ACT Alliance, dug a new well for the community in 2016, providing a source of safe water and saving Abuk a one-hour walk to a well. The organization has also distributed food vouchers to hungry families in the region.

 • Nongladew is a small village in the mountainous indigenous area of Meghalaya, in Northeast India with a population of Garo and Khasi indigenous people. The Garo are one of the last remaining matrilineal societies in the world.

Climate change has brought severe hail storms, with pieces of hail the size of golf balls. The roof of the school was recently badly damaged by a severe hail storm, leaving it looking like a huge colander. Only thatched roofs in the area survived the storm. The hail destroyed standing crops putting the region in a precarious food security situation.
• Yanina Avila, 18, daughter of assassinated Tolupán indigenous leader José de Los Santos Sevilla, in the remote area of Montaña de la Flor in Honduras.

Yanina talks of her father's fear of encroaching mining and logging companies, and nearby ladinos who want to take Tolupán land, and how defenceless they are against them. While non-indigenous areas are deforested, the rivers dry or poisoned, the indigenous territories have woodland and fresh water in the rivers.

Eight Tolupán leaders have been assassinated in this area. Others have been assassinated in another Tolupán area in Yoro.
• A statue of Christ crucified stands in the Hambach forest near Bonn where the UN climate change negotiations are taking place.

Protesters are occupying the Hambach forest, living in tree-houses to prevent the expansion of the mine. This mining area near Bonn is Europe’s greatest source of CO2 emissions. While there is very broad consensus that we need to stop mining coal, coal mines such as this continue to expand, and finance for fossil fuels extraction is still available, in many countries there are subsidies for fossil fuels but not renewable energy.
• In Usulután, El Salvador, Sebastian Cedillos, agricultural technician at FUNDES, a partner of ACT member Lutheran World Relief, inspects a farmer's corn field suffering from the impact of drought. The corn grew initially then dried in a critical period as the corn grains should have developed. The whole crop was lost. Climate change has brought unpredictable and unreliable patterns of rainfall, the rain doesn't come when it's needed, and sometimes six month's of rain come in a week and wash away the topsoil.

 • 27 January 2019, Burka Dare IDP site, near Micha, Seweyna woreda, Bale Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia: At the river nearby the Burka Dare site for Internally Displaced People (IDP), which this time of year runs seemingly dry, the community of Oromo people has dug a cattle trough, to preserve low-percolating water from deep inside the riverbed, salvaging some drinking water for livestock and people alike.
